BRS Accuses Telangana Congress Government of Neglecting Education System
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has criticized the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in Telangana for allegedly neglecting the state's education system since December 2023. BRS leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar accused the government of failing to fulfill promises made to students, such as distributing scooters to college girls from poor families and providing ₹20 lakh overseas scholarships under the Ambedkar and Jyotirao Phule Overseas Education Support Scheme. He highlighted that during the previous BRS government, led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, significant progress was made in education, including the establishment of 660 residential schools that enabled students from marginalized communities to pursue professional courses in national institutions. Praveen Kumar also alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy deliberately retained the education portfolio to undermine it by neglecting the promotion of Young India schools, which were proposed to be built with ₹200 crore investments to house 2,560 students each. However, not a single school has been constructed so far, including in the Chief Minister’s Kodangal constituency and the Deputy Chief Minister’s Madhira constituency. Additionally, the government has registered cases against BRS leaders, including Praveen Kumar, for visiting residential schools and bringing issues to the government’s attention.
Congress Condemns KTR's Derogatory Remarks Against Telangana CM Revanth Reddy

They accused KTR of using low-level language and attributed his outbursts to the ongoing scrutiny of the Kaleshwaram project. Balmoor emphasized that such remarks could provoke tensions and street-level clashes, while Patel Ramesh Reddy stated that those speaking ill of the Chief Minister would face consequences. The leaders also criticized the previous BRS regime for leaving Telangana in a 'debt trap' and affirmed the Congress government's commitment to reversing this through welfare and development initiatives. Additionally, Balmoor lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell against KTR and MLA Kaushik Reddy for posting objectionable remarks on social media, which were deemed a threat to law and order.

KMRL Explores Restoration of ‘Vidya’ Student Discount Metro Passes Amid Backlash
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is exploring ways to restore the ‘Vidya’ student discount passes, which were abruptly suspended ahead of the new academic year. The ‘Vidya’ passes, introduced in 2023, offered discounted metro travel for school and college students through single-day, 30-day, and 45-day options. The passes were popular among students who relied on affordable metro travel. However, KMRL suspended these passes without prior notice on April 1, 2024, citing the summer vacation period when educational institutions were closed. This decision led to widespread backlash from the student community and their families, as it increased daily commuting expenses and caused delays due to reliance on buses. Hibi Eden, Ernakulam MP, has urged KMRL to reinstate the passes and ensure future changes are communicated in advance. KMRL sources have acknowledged the complaints and are examining the possibility of resuming the scheme.
