Expert Committee Formed for Arkavati River Rejuvenation via PPP Model
A high-level expert committee has been formed to lead the rejuvenation of the Arkavati River through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The initiative was announced by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar directing the committee's formation. The Arkavati River, which stretches 53 kilometers from Nandi Hills to Tippagondanahalli (T.G. Halli) reservoir, was Bengaluru's primary drinking water source from 1936 to 2000. However, industrial growth, wastewater discharge, and environmental degradation have rendered the water unfit for consumption. The rejuvenation plan involves collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, and civic bodies, with IDECK already conducting an integrated study in areas like Hesaraghatta and Madanayakanahalli. A multi-disciplinary committee, including experts from voluntary organizations, academic institutions, and civic stakeholders, will drive the mission forward. The meeting saw participation from officials of BBMP, BDA, DMA, KIADB, KSPCB, RDWSD, KUWS&DB, and representatives from Art of Living, Biome Trust, and the Indian Institute of Science.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Open to Alliance with MNS for Maharashtra’s Welfare
On June 10, 2025, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut announced that his party is open to forming an alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the welfare of Maharashtra and the Marathi-speaking population. Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized that political ego would not hinder such a move, as the party’s priority is to protect Maharashtra’s interests and reclaim its influence over Mumbai. This statement comes amid increasing speculation about a reconciliation between Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s MNS. Both leaders have hinted at setting aside past differences for a larger cause, with Raj Thackeray stating that uniting for the “Marathi manoos” would not be difficult, and Uddhav Thackeray expressing readiness to move beyond “trivial issues” if anti-Maharashtra elements are sidelined. Aaditya Thackeray, a former State Minister, also echoed this sentiment on June 9, 2025, stating that Shiv Sena (UBT) is open to collaborating with any group committed to working for Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Marathi-speaking people with sincerity. However, he clarified that no formal discussions have taken place yet. The potential alliance could mark a significant political shift, nearly two decades after the split between the two factions. Uddhav Thackeray has emphasized that the final decision will reflect the will of the people.
