Kitex Group Halts Investments in Kerala Amid Political Tensions
The Kitex Group, led by Managing Director Sabu Jacob, has stated that it has not made any investments in Kerala since the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government came to power and currently has no plans to invest in the state. Jacob responded to a statement by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, who asserted that the group continues to operate in Kerala despite earlier threats to relocate. Jacob emphasized that the company does not require government approval to continue its operations and accused Rajeeve of deflecting blame for his own limitations. He highlighted that the company faced continuous raids for nearly a month, which found no wrongdoing, leading Kitex to move its ₹3,500-crore investment out of Kerala in protest. Rajeeve, on the other hand, announced that HCLTech will open its second unit in Thiruvananthapuram on June 9, praising the state's industry-friendly environment. He also warned that those attempting to disrupt this environment would be held accountable to Kerala's youth, as the government focuses on creating more employment opportunities within the state.

Chirag Paswan Announces Candidature for Bihar Assembly Elections 2024
Chirag Paswan, Union Cabinet Minister and President of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP (RV)], announced his intention to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections during his first public address at the ‘Nav-Sankalp’ rally in Shahbad, Bihar. The rally, attended by a predominantly young male crowd, saw Paswan symbolically receiving a sword and a magenta turban, signaling his readiness for the electoral battle. Paswan, who currently holds the Hajipur Parliamentary seat previously won by his late father Ram Vilas Paswan, emphasized his commitment to Bihar, stating, “Yes, I will contest from Bihar; in fact, I will fight for Bihar.” However, he left the decision of the specific constituency to his supporters. The Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for later this year, will see LJP (RV) contesting alongside Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] in the NDA alliance, against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and CPI (ML). Chirag’s decision to shift focus from national to state politics marks a departure from his father’s legacy, as Ram Vilas Paswan remained a prominent figure in central politics for five decades. The LJP (RV) has been actively campaigning across Bihar, with posters showcasing Chirag’s Chief Ministerial ambitions. The election also highlights the complex relationship between Chirag and Nitish Kumar, who have had a rocky political history. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Chirag’s campaign against Kumar’s administration significantly weakened JD(U)’s performance, reducing it to 43 seats. The upcoming elections will test Chirag’s ability to consolidate support among Dalits and other marginalized communities, as well as his potential to emerge as a key contender for the Chief Minister’s post.

Siddaramaiah Defends Government’s Action on Police Officials After RCB Felicitation Stampede
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has defended the Karnataka government’s decision to take action against police officials for security lapses during a felicitation event for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2024, which resulted in a stampede claiming 11 lives. Addressing the media in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah refuted allegations by the BJP and JD(S), stating that the police were responsible for security and that their failure constituted dereliction of duty. He clarified that the government did not organise the event in front of Vidhana Soudha or at the stadium, but was invited by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The CM also highlighted that the DPAR Secretary was not at fault, as she had set conditions for the police. Siddaramaiah denied any embarrassment to the government, asserting that action was taken against officials found responsible, including the suspension of Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda and four other officers, as well as the transfer of Intelligence Chief Hemant Nimbalkar and the dismissal of Political Secretary K. Govindaraj.
TIPRA Motha Demands Action Against Illegal Foreigners in Tripura
TIPRA Motha, an alliance partner of the ruling BJP in Tripura, has announced protests demanding the detection and deportation of illegal foreigners from the state. The decision was approved by the party’s founder, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman. This move is seen as a strategy to divert attention from recent protests against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, who refused to meet TIPRA leaders to discuss urgent welfare project issues. The protests in Gomati district involved youth activists locking government offices, leading to the transfer of senior police officers to Agartala’s police headquarters. TIPRA leadership reportedly reached an understanding with coalition leaders to avoid demanding the District Magistrate’s transfer. Meanwhile, TIPRA MLA Ranjit Debbarma led a delegation to the Governor, demanding action against illegal foreigners but without specifying who would be considered infiltrators. Following TIPRA Motha’s lead, IPFT, another coalition partner, has also called for strict measures against illegal trespassers, including their detention in specialized centres.
