Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to India-Pakistan Ceasefire Amid Tensions
On May 11, 2025, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to the faithful implementation of the ceasefire agreement with India, emphasizing that its forces are handling the situation with 'responsibility and restraint.' The agreement, reached on May 10, 2025, aimed to halt all military actions on land, air, and sea with immediate effect. However, the arrangement faced significant challenges shortly after, with India accusing Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire. India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, urged Pakistan to take 'appropriate steps' to address these violations and deal with the situation seriously. Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson responded by reaffirming the commitment to the ceasefire and advocating for any issues to be resolved through communication and restraint by ground troops. Tensions between the two nations escalated following India’s military strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack the previous week.
BBMP to Acquire Land in Rainbow Drive Layout for Flood Prevention

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced plans to acquire land in the Rainbow Drive Layout, a residential area in Bengaluru, to construct tertiary drains aimed at preventing flooding during the monsoon season. The area, located off Sarjapur Road, has a history of severe flooding, with the worst incident occurring in August 2022, when residents had to use tractors to navigate the waterlogged streets. The BBMP claims that the water channel in the area was previously encroached upon, leading to the flooding. In 2023, the Bengaluru East tahsildar issued notices, and the BB prepared for the demolition of 13 villas that were allegedly built on the encroached land. However, the residents challenged the action in the Karnataka High Court, which ruled that the BBMP must acquire the land legally before proceeding with the construction of the drains. BBMP officials, including Engineer-in-Chief B.S. Prahlad, have stated that the court's decision leaves them with no choice but to follow the legal process. The BBMP is now preparing to issue notices to landowners and may have to demolish some structures in the layout. The Rainbow Drive Layout Plot Owners' Association has proposed an alternative plan to avoid land acquisition, but the BBMP has yet to respond. Residents along the proposed drain alignment are concerned about losing their properties and are calling for compensation from the developers.

Geotube Technology Successfully Mitigates Coastal Erosion in Poonthura
A recent study conducted by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), in collaboration with the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) and coastal engineering experts, has demonstrated the effectiveness of geotube technology in combating coastal erosion along the Poonthura coastline. The installation of geotubes, which are large synthetic tubes filled with sand, has significantly transformed the coastal landscape. The offshore breakwater system, comprising five units each spanning 100 meters and placed 50 meters apart, has successfully mitigated wave overtopping and reduced the force of incoming waves. This has led to the accumulation of sand, resulting in the formation of a stable and sustainable beach, even during adverse weather conditions. The project, funded with ₹20 crore by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), faced initial challenges due to strong underwater currents, but these were overcome with the deployment of 250 kg concrete anchor blocks and the expertise of divers formerly associated with the Indian Navy. The study also highlighted that while the upper layer of geotubes experienced some sand escape due to sea motion, the overall structure remained secure and stable, with the bottom layer fully consolidated.
