Former Intelligence Chief P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu Interrogated by APCID in False Case Investigation
The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (APCID) interrogated former Additional Director General (Intelligence) P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu (P.S.R. Anjaneyulu) for seven hours on Monday. Anjaneyulu, a suspended IPS officer, was arrested for allegedly fabricating a false case against Bollywood actor Kadambari Jethwani. The investigation officers filed a petition in court seeking custody of Anjaneyulu, which was granted for three days. The interrogation took place in the presence of his lawyer as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.
Tamil Nadu Political Parties Demand Enhanced Pay and Reforms for Police Personnel
Political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the Congress, CPI (M), PMK, and BJP, have collectively urged the State government to enhance the pay and allowances of Grade-II police constables. They emphasized the need to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Tamil Nadu Police Commission, which includes aligning the salary of constables with entry-level government jobs and increasing the risk allowance from ₹500 to ₹1,000. PMK leader G.K. Mani highlighted the necessity of strengthening the police force in line with population growth. Additionally, Sinthanai Selvan of the VCK advocated for a significant increase in the monthly remuneration of sanitary workers in the police department from ₹2,000 to ₹15,000. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan called for gender sensitization training for the police force, while CPI (M) MLA V.P. Nagaimaali stressed the importance of parity in salary with constables in other states and addressing the rise in encounter killings. Congress leader Selvaperunthagai also emphasized the implementation of weekly offs for police personnel.
Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Launches Mayor’s Help Desk to Assist Residents

The Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation has introduced a new initiative to enhance public service delivery with the establishment of the Mayor’s Help Desk. This facility, scheduled to open in the first week of May, will be located near the entrance of the main office at Palayam. The primary objective of the help desk is to assist residents, particularly senior citizens, in navigating the digital services provided through the K-Smart platform, which has been operational since last year. The K-Smart platform facilitates the digital delivery of services across urban local bodies. Despite its introduction, a significant portion of the population, especially those less familiar with digital tools, have relied on Akshaya Centres for assistance. The Mayor’s Help Desk will provide additional support, guiding visitors to the appropriate sections within the corporation for various local issues. Ten officials will be stationed at the help desk to offer assistance. The setup of the help desk, including interior and furnishing, was completed under the Smart City Project at a cost of ₹41.14 lakh. This new facility complements the existing Janasevana Kendram and the Mayor’s Cell, which have been operational for several years, handling complaints and requests addressed to the Mayor.
CPI Denies Rumors of Leaving LDF, Reaffirms Unity with CPI(M)
CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam addressed the media on Monday, dismissing rumors about the Communist Party of India (CPI) leaving the Left Democratic Front (LDF). He emphasized that certain politicians were spreading false information regarding the LDF's activities and its leaders. Viswam made these remarks while releasing a book on former CPI leader P. Balachandra Menon, authored by Leji Krishnan. The first copy of the book was presented to CPI State Executive Member V. Chamunny. Viswam further clarified that any differences with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) would be resolved through discussions. He denied claims of a report being submitted against the CPI(M) and reassured that the CPI would continue to remain within the LDF and contest elections jointly.

Kerala Strengthens District Committees to Tackle Human-Wildlife Conflicts
The Forest Department has initiated measures to strengthen district-level coordination committees to address human-wildlife conflicts in Kerala effectively. Following directives from the Chief Minister during a high-level meeting on February 27, the government has issued formal orders establishing these committees. These district-level panels, which will meet monthly, are tasked with assessing ground-level situations and implementing necessary actions. Each committee will include key officials such as the District Collector, District Police Chief, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), and District Medical Officer, among others. Additionally, Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly from the respective areas will participate as special invitees. The DFOs will serve as the conveners of these committees. These monthly meetings will coincide with the District Development Committee sessions to ensure continuous monitoring and proactive responses to wildlife conflicts.

Rotary Bangalore Midtown Facilitates Access to Government Welfare Schemes for Underprivileged
Palani Loganathan, President of Rotary Bangalore Midtown, highlighted the organization's initiative, 'Windows of Opportunity,' which aims to assist underprivileged individuals in accessing government welfare schemes. Launched in October 2024, the initiative has successfully facilitated direct financial transfers of over ₹4.8 crore to beneficiaries, helping them access schemes like Ayushman Bharat, E-Shram Card, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yoga. The initiative has benefited over 50,000 individuals, with 27,000 already registered. To overcome barriers such as lack of education and awareness, Rotary Bangalore Midtown established help desks in high-traffic areas such as government hospitals and primary health centers, including Vani Vilas Hospital and St. John’s Medical College Hospital. The organization has allocated ₹50 lakh for this project and aims to generate a social return on investment exceeding ₹50 crore by ensuring that people receive their rightful benefits.

Former Minister and MLA for Chamundeshwari, G.T. Deve Gowda, announced his intention to appeal to the government to organize free summer camps for rural and marginalized children. Speaking at the valedictory function of 'Parisara Besuge,' a summer camp organized by the Mysuru-based NGO V-Care in Hootagalli on Sunday, Mr. Gowda emphasized the importance of such initiatives for children from underprivileged backgrounds. He praised V-Care for its efforts in fostering personality development and environmental awareness among children. Senior theatre personality Rameshwari Varma also highlighted the need for government-supported free summer camps to alleviate financial burdens on parents. Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, urged children to exercise caution on social media and emphasized the importance of education for self-reliance. The event also saw participation from Block Education Officer M. Prakash and Dr. M. Kishor, Head of Psychiatry at JSS Hospital, Mysuru.

BJP Nominates Paka Venkata Satyanarayana for Rajya Sabha By-Election in Andhra Pradesh
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its decision to field Paka Venkata Satyanarayana as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Andhra Pradesh. Satyanarayana has a long-standing association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), having been involved in its activities since 1976. Young Elephant Dies from Injuries Sustained in Herd Clash in Attappady
A young elephant, approximately 15 years old, succumbed to severe injuries sustained during a clash with another elephant herd at Keerippara in Attappady on Monday. The incident occurred after the injured elephant, which had sustained wounds on its legs and body during a confrontation at Pottikkal on March 29, failed to recover despite efforts by forest officials. The elephant’s internal injuries were confirmed during a postmortem examination. The body was subsequently buried in the evening. This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by wildlife in the region.

Karnataka SHRC Investigates Hubballi Police Encounter for Human Rights Violations
The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), led by Chairman T. Sham Bhatt, has initiated an inquiry into the police encounter in Hubballi, where an accused in the murder of a minor girl was killed. The incident occurred when the accused allegedly tried to escape after assaulting the police. On Monday, a team including Mr. Bhatt, member S.K. Vantigodi, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudheer M. Hegde visited the deceased girl’s house and the encounter site. The SHRC registered the case based on a special report from the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner, focusing on potential human rights violations. Mr. Bhatt clarified that the inquiry would proceed independently of the CID investigation, and if necessary, they would seek a report from the CID. The human rights cell, headed by an Additional Director-General of Police, has assigned the investigation to a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The inquiry is expected to take two months, after which a report will be submitted to the State government. The SHRC emphasized that the inquiry is centered on the right to life, as the accused lost his life during the encounter. The commission clarified that it would not inquire into the minor girl’s murder unless the police failed to investigate, which is not the case here.
